Class Exercise

Personality-Environment Transactions

This Psych 150 exercise addresses the third kind of person-environment interaction discussed in class, namely evocation -- what impressions we evoke in our social environment. Our friends, peers, and dorm mates are probably the most important parts of our social environment in college, so this is a 2-person exercise. Select a person whom you know well and who knows you well, so you can both describe your impressions of the other's personality.

Feedback is similar to that in the previous exercises on these topics, but it is even more interesting because it will also focus on similarities and differences between the two sets of evoked impressions. Please try to be as accurate as possible in your responses -- the feedback page will not reveal any sensitive responses. Do not discuss your answers with your friend as you fill out the form. In fact, you should probably each leave the room when the other is filling out the form, so that your friend can most accurately describe his/her impressions of you.

Option 1. Two people fill this out together. Both are in Psych 150. If you pick this option, you will both get credit and feedback.
Option 2. Two people fill this out together. Only one is in Psych 150 . The 150 student will get credit, but you will still both get the feedback.
Option 3. A student from Psych 150 fills this out alone. If you cannot find someone else to complete this exercise with you, you can complete it by yourself. On the first page, you will describe yourself; on the second page, you should describe someone you know well.
